“Progress equals happiness! If you are growing and giving, you will be happy. If you are moving forward in your life, if you are progressing personally, professionally, emotionally, spiritually – you will be happy. It is only in stagnation that we wilt like a flower” – Tony Robbins

I’m told that today is International Happiness Day and whilst I can imagine some people might question the need for this kind of event, it’s good to see the positive message that comes through from it.

Happiness is a plate of fish and chips!

Happiness is a plate of fish and chips!

People are realising the importance of health and wellbeing, arguably more than ever. This isn’t to say the job is done, far from it, and I think more could be done if business owners invested more in the happiness of their teams and if the government incentivised employee engagement. But, as I argued yesterday, us Brits are a resilient bunch.

What Tony Robbins says about progress and the effect it has on happiness is also important. If you’re not growing, you’re dying. Try not to stand still for too long. That’s when you’ll start getting the feeling of being trapped; of underachieving and of somehow missing out so push yourself – set your mind on a goal and go for it!

I hope you’re feeling happy this International Happiness Day. And if you need a pick-me-up, perhaps this will help…
