When you’ve got great people working behind the scenes, it’s easy to slip into the habit of taking what they do for granted. Whilst we try to make sure that every single individual at UKFast is appreciated and recognised for the work that they do, it’s important to remember that, as with anything, you can always do more.
I think it’s fair to say that sysadmins often don’t get the thanks that they deserve. You might be thinking, ‘but I say thank you to our techies when they fix the printer jam’, but are you aware of all the other jobs they do and how critical they are? To put it into perspective, they basically keep businesses running.
This might sound like an exaggeration, but ask yourself; who keeps your company’s antivirus software up to date? Who builds, installs, patches and monitors your servers, and who sets up firewalls, lays the cables and configures the networks? This is just a slice of what a day in the life of a sysadmin entails and is by no means the whole picture.
I’m constantly overwhelmed by how much our tech guys and girls do, from the data centre engineers to the support team here at HQ. If there’s an issue over the weekend or in the middle of the night, they’re there, helping the rest of us sleep well knowing that our businesses are being supported. Let’s use today to say thank you, but let’s also not forget to show our appreciation every other day as well.
There’s a big bake sale going on at UKFast HQ for our techies today. Let us know what you’ve got planned.
Happy System Administrator Appreciation Day!
