1 December 2014
It’s hard to believe how quickly November has flown by. It feels like the blink of an eye since it began, yet we have crammed so much into that time, trying, as always, to make every second count!
As everyone starts counting down to Christmas, it becomes a time for looking forward and ticking off those final goals before the year ends. Having said that, there are occasions where there’s value in looking over your shoulder and remembering the events and emotions that came before. Today is one of those days as, on the 1st December 1955, one lady stood up for her rights – and the rights of an entire community – despite the risk it posed to her as an individual.
On this day, not so many years ago, Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to move to the back of the bus and give up her seat to a white passenger. Thankfully, we’ve come a long way as a society since then, but what it does show is that one individual can change the course of history. It’s a reminder that we all have the power to make a difference and a positive change, whether it’s helping others or even helping ourselves.
We aren’t powerless and we aren’t alone. Often, when you take a risk – a leap of faith – you will be pleasantly surprised by the number of people out there who are prepared to do it with you.
Have a great month, guys. Start it strong, as you mean to go on, and finish the year on a high.
