Here’s a challenge for you: instead of going to Starbucks for your morning coffee tomorrow, why not buy it from a local café instead? December 6th is Small Business Saturday, an opportunity to shine the spotlight on all the fantastic small businesses at the heart of communities all around Britain.
All too often, we fall for the marketing hype around bigger chains and multinationals when there are some great alternatives right on our doorstep. I’ve been guilty of this in the past (although I’ve never been a fan of Starbucks), yet when you think about it, it makes perfect sense to buy from the smaller, more independent shops in your neighbourhood.
Call me traditional, but I still believe in the idea of community, and small businesses are integral to this. Personally, I think you are more likely to strike up better relationships with the small business owners in your area than those of colossal brands with chains all over the country and beyond.
As I said in my blog yesterday, it’s the small businesses in this country that are bolstering Britain’s economy and driving it forwards. They are the grafters, the creatives, and the salt of British entrepreneurialism.
Where will you be shopping this Small Business Saturday?
