One of the things I’ve found when studying great leaders is that many of them seem to have an appetite for continuous personal development, which is why they are often great listeners.

That notion, the idea that you’re not yet the finished article, is also applicable to business. Looking to learn from other organisations has its benefits, as it means you strive harder to improve and to achieve more.

Consider Warren Avis and the campaign that worked well for his firm as they challenged the number one market leader, Hertz. It’s based around this very idea. His philosophy was, “When you’re only number two, you try harder” and I think there’s a lot of truth in that.

As UKFast keeps growing, we’ll keep our sights set on the successful businesses and individuals that inspire us, and aim not only to learn from them, but also – one day – to beat them!
