8 January 2016

It might be chips, it might be bad habits. Whatever you’re giving up in 2016, I’d love to hear about it.

Whilst now is undoubtedly the time of year to set resolutions and goals, it is also the time to assess what we need to leave behind in 2015.

On the one hand, this could be diet related. It could be drinking less alcohol – as per today’s new recommendations – or changing your eating habits. Or it could be health and fitness related.

On the other hand, it could be business related. I have often said that it is easy to become a busy fool; being busy for the sake of being busy, without achieving anything. That is the time to sit back and look at where you’re aiming and what steps you can take to get you there, rather than being waylaid by the distractions that shout the loudest.

For me, giving things up comes relatively simply. Once I set my mind to it, I stick to it. Giving up food groups, becoming vegetarian and eventually vegan, was relatively simple because I had made the statement to myself. It’s as simple as that; make a promise to yourself and stick to it. That, obviously, comes with challenges occasionally – in my case a tempting steak or chips perhaps – but I always think back to the promise I made, and look forward to reaching that goal, the reason behind it and how I would feel if I did go back on it.

Don’t forget, it is natural to slip up now and again. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you do have a ‘cheat day’. Don’t let yourself become demotivated. Jump back into it and look ahead not back.

I would love to know what you’re aiming for or giving up this year and I am here to help you along the way if you need it. Good luck!
