Who are the most important people in the world right now?
In my opinion, it’s our children.
Catching up on the news and social media this afternoon (morning in the UK) while my daughters played on the beach with grandparents, I was heartened to see #YoungMindsMatter trending.
The Duchess of Cambridge has joined forces with the Huffington Post to launch a campaign promoting mental health and wellbeing in young children. The campaign is designed to lead the conversation with children about mental and emotional health.
It is an incredibly sensitive topic and one which is shrouded in taboo. With so much pressure on children to succeed from such an early age in school, there’s never been a more important time to offer this support.
As a father, I believe that a healthy family is one that communicates, where there are no demonstrative leaders, and where everyone is able to share their thoughts and feelings freely.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case for many families out there.
It is our responsibility as the current generation of adults, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents or teachers, to look after the next generation. These little people don’t stay little for long! They fast become the next entrepreneurs, politicians, nurses, teachers. Pretty soon they will be making choices about our future. If we don’t look after them, they most certainly won’t be looking after us.
It’s time to be more open about this topic and help children to grow into healthy, happy adults.
