8 March 2016
Today is International Women’s Day.
It’s a day to celebrate the incredible women in the world and, for me, one such woman stands out; my wife, Gail.
Whilst I may always be the one to step into the spotlight, to take on media appearances and be vocal on the blog, Gail is always there, driving the business forward.
Gail and I have been on an incredible journey together over the past 16 years with UKFast. As business partners as well as husband and wife, you could say that the mix of home and work life could be challenge. However it’s never been an issue for us; Gail is an unstoppable driving force and provides much-needed balance for my excitement!
I have never known anyone like my wife. She provides an essential calming force on the board of directors – which at UKFast has a 50/50 male/female split.
It makes me incredibly sad to hear that, even in this day and age, there are businesses with no women on the board. How can you run a business without that balance?
Gail is incredibly organised and determined, being one of the two founders of the business, all while raising our girls and with another on the way!
On that note, I believe that there is nothing on this planet like a mother. When women return from maternity leave, they have had the best management training anyone could ever have; combining organisation, crisis communications, negotiation skills, customer service and time management. It is astonishing to me that there is still a stigma attached to working mothers and maternity leave – anyone in doubt should speak to my wife!
But that’s not just what today is about. UKFast would not be the business that it is today if it weren’t for Gail and all of the women within the company. I am incredibly proud of my wife, and of the example she sets to our three, soon-to-be four, daughters.
So, today, take some time to think about the incredible women who shape our world.
I’d love to hear how your celebrating the day and the stories of the incredible women in your life.
