2 September 2016
It’s the start of Sale Sharks’ new season today. With new owners, new sponsors and so many changes at the club, it’s the dawn of a new era and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
The team and club has prepared all it can, everything is in place and ready for the first game of the 2016-17 season tonight against Newcastle Falcons, and ahead of the first home game next Friday against Harlequins.
Having seen the team training pre-season it is safe to say we are in an incredible position for the season ahead, with Steve Diamond leading the charge, Mark Cueto behind the scenes and Fran Cotton in the CEO role along with the group of new owners, it is an extraordinary leadership team bringing skills from across the spectrum.
Alongside this, there are new signings like Welsh international scrum half Mike Phillips and team captain Josh Beaumont signing a new three-year deal.
Of course, in sport, you have to win on the field, but you have to win off the field too. This year my mission is to make Sharks’ hospitality an incredible new experience – we’re focussed on making it the best sporting night in the North West.
This sponsorship deal doesn’t just mean a logo on a shirt. I am on a mission to make a real difference here. My goal is to work with the club and share our experience of creating a world-class experience for everyone: fans, players’ wives and families, the press, the away supporters – everyone has to leave the ground on a high.
Over the years, we’ve made some incredible friends at the club and I am so excited to reignite that Friday night magic and make The Sharks the number one go-to event in Manchester again.
Here’s to an exciting season ahead, I hope to see you at the AJ Bell Stadium soon.
