8 December 2016
Today is one of my favourite days of the year at UKFast; friends and family day.
At 4pm we open the doors to the team’s friends and family for a huge festive feast with a pianist playing carols and all sorts of other Christmassy surprises.
This year is extra special considering the number of babies that have been born in the team in the past twelve months. It’s almost in the twenties! Last year was a big year for growing families too, so this afternoon we’re sure to have plenty of toddlers and newborns being passed around for cuddles and games!
It’s wonderful for my wife Gail and I to see. We’ve been watching the team grow for 17 years – many of the original team from the early 2000s are still here and are part of the furniture, and we’ve seen them grow from raucous young people coming into work with the occasional hangover to meeting their other halves and starting families.
I am also looking forward to meeting the families of our latest cohort of apprentices. Getting to know their parents – and them getting to know Gail and I – is incredibly important to me. Whilst many of our apprentices made the move to join our team themselves, when it comes to 17-19 year-olds, the parents play a big part in their decisions. These parents are entrusting us with the futures of their teenagers and it is a responsibility that I don’t take lightly.
As a business owner, taking this time to get to know your team’s friends and family is a real privilege and I can’t recommend holding events like these enough. We’re all family here so it makes perfect sense to hold a Christmas celebration to bring everyone together.
How are you celebrating Christmas with your team?
