31 January 2017
Have you set all your targets for the new year?
It’s the last day of January, which means 2017 is now well and truly under way, and I am certain most of us have given up on at least one of our New Year’s resolutions but it’s definitely not too late to set yourself another challenge for the year ahead.
Like last year, UKFast is the main sponsor of two 10K runs in Greater Manchester in 2017. The UKFast We Love MCR event in July is the first of the two runs, with the City of Salford 10K taking place in September.
I am incredibly proud that we are in a position to be able to do this because events like these make big difference to Manchester as a city and as a community and they get people moving! There is nothing more inspiring than setting a challenge, working towards it and achieving the goal – especially if that involves exercise.
These runs are also an opportunity to raise some cash for charity. Our nominated charities are: The Christie, We Love MCR, Cash for Kids and the Diane Modahl Sports Foundation.
I believe that competitive runs make you set yourself a target to train toward and help to develop habits that will influence other parts of your life too. In my opinion, setting new challenges is essential to staying happy and motivated.
I have first-hand experience of the impact that exercise has on mindset, on overall wellbeing and energy levels. I find that when I feel things are not going to plan, or am feeling unlucky, it is usually when my exercise has dropped off. As soon as I am back on the squash court or with my personal trainer, everything seems to improve.
It is one of my personal challenges to get as many people as possible involved with sports, and running in particular. I believe it’s incredibly important that people are encouraged to get up from behind their desks to get their heart rates pumping – it not only makes the individuals healthier, but also our economy and our city as a whole.
There is no doubt that there is a link between sport, business and the mind. This belief has become a big part of the way we do business every day. The UKFast Running Club hits the streets every day for a lunchtime run around the park and has been doing so for years. It is astonishing how many people now take part in one or more runs each week and I can tell the difference in my team. Exercise changes your body, releasing chemicals that reduce anxiety and stress, and increasing happiness, productivity and creativity.
So, what’s stopping you?
