When a news channel blocks a Presidential Counsellor, spokesperson of the Whitehouse, and says she’s not credible surely that is a warning sign, but that is what has happened in the US this week.
Kellyanne Conway has been ‘blacklisted’ by MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski who refuses to book the presidential aide for the channel’s national ‘Morning Joe’ programme. CNN also previously refused to feature the former campaign manager last month.
The Trump administration has become renowned for ‘alternative facts’ and its attempted manipulation of the press, following a presidential campaign led by social media, skewed information and ‘fake news’.
Conway is the first woman in history to run a Republican presidential campaign – she was even given a special shoutout as Trump was named President-elect. But since then, cracks have begun to show. She backed General Michael Flynn on TV hours before he was forced to resign.
She also made comments promoting Ivanka’s product line, for which she’s had a reprimand from the government ethics office.
How can someone who was the most trusted advisor of the president be so seemingly out of the loop and end up shunned from national TV?
To me it shows how powerful the press can be when they feel passionate about something. Journalists of well-established papers and programmes rightly feel passionate about their trade and do not want it to be just a voice for misinformation. They are right to send this message out.
Co-host Joe Scarborough chimed in to say Conway may not have been knowingly spreading false information but was just making statements “to prove her relevance.”
“I don’t even think she’s saying something she knows to be untrue,” Scarborough said. “She’s just saying things just to get in front of the TV to prove her relevance because behind the scenes she’s not in these meetings and any reporter can ask anybody in that White House and they will say the same thing. She’s not in these meetings. So why does the president allow her to keep going out and spreading false information?”
It appears that not only are cracks starting to show, the whole thing is caving in! Flynn resigning and the controversy around that, the Conway debacle and now his labor secretary nominee, Andy Puzder, has withdrawn.
Surely this is time for America and Trump to rethink.
Surely this is time for America and Trump to rethink. Either way it is great to see the press coming to their own conclusions about how trustworthy a source is and acting accordingly.
