Happy St David’s Day! Or should I say: Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!
For all you fellow Welsh folk out there, today’s our day!
I am an incredibly proud Welshman, I grew up in the small market of town of Denbigh – a small market town in North Wales and went to Ruthin school before heading to Rhyl train station bound for the big city lights of Manchester at 16 years old.
Whilst Manchester is incredibly close to my heart, I will always escape to the Welsh hills whenever I need a break. The mountains are my home.
I remember that I wanted to play fly-half for Wales when I was growing up – who’d have thought I would have ended up being taken in by the Manchester business community instead! Of course rugby has stayed close to my heart and we’re now the main sponsor of Sale Sharks once again. We bought Castell Cidwm in the foothills of Mount Snowdon to share the Welsh charm of the mountains with the UKFast team and close that gap between my Welsh roots and our Manchester-based business.
It’s yielded extraordinary results too. There is something incredible about reaching the summit of Mount Snowdon – once you reach the top of a mountain, you feel like you can do anything! There really is something special about the Welsh mountain air and that Welsh charm; it’s part of our company culture.
St David’s Day is always a great day at UKFast Campus, the Welsh contingent of Team UKFast will no doubt have their flags, daffodils and leeks proudly on display!
My Welsh accent may have gone faded and I may live a few more miles away now, but that doesn’t change the fact that I am Welsh and incredibly proud of it.
