Secure IA with lawrence Jones public sector and HSCNHow many times have you had to sit and wait on hold trying to book an appointment with the doctor? Or chased around trying to get a repeat prescription?

Thankfully, in the not-too-distance future this could be a thing of the past thanks to the constantly evolving new technology being adopted by the public sector and NHS.

One such innovation came onto our radar recently. UKFast received accreditation as a supplier from NHS Digital and is set to offer NHS services through the new Health and Social Care Network (HSCN). HSCN is being brought in to replace the existing NHS network, N3.

The move makes UKFast the only provider to offer HSCN connectivity directly from a government-approved data centre. It also means that when services adopt these faster, upgraded technologies, the end users – the likes of you and me – get the service that they need, faster.

HSCN and UKFast

It’s a huge development for the business too. We made a serious move into the public sector last year acquiring Secure-IA and taking on some high-profile public sector clients. Plus, we tripled public sector revenue organically last year, demonstrating the demand in the market for a British public sector cloud provider. I am incredibly proud to provide services for a sector that makes up the backbone of our country.

To be accredited to provide services as part of a real tech advancement in the public sector is a real honour. It adds to the offerings that UKFast is also approved by the government to supply through a number of government frameworks.

The new initiative, HSCN, is a private network owned by the British government that is restricted to the UK and connects doctor’s surgeries, pharmacies, NHS Trusts and the like to digital medical data.
In the press announcement earlier this week, Head of UKFast Public Sector, Martin Knapp, said:

“Modernising NHS connectivity is a hugely positive step. HSCN enables more organisations to interact and to provide high-quality, data-driven services to the NHS. N3 has been a great servant but it’s the right time for it to evolve.

“eCloud is now connected to the wider digital health ring and we’re in an incredible position to deliver hosting and cloud services directly to healthcare clients and make a huge difference to the efficiency of health and social care organisations.

“We’re also enabling SMEs to enter a market and bring innovation to the NHS, where previously it’s been a relatively closed shop. When clients connect to UKFast’s HSCN, they are automatically able to access a government-accredited cloud and a government-accredited infrastructure, which is a first.”

Buying British

It’s incredibly important that the health service knows there is a better British cloud alternative and that they have the option to buy British. The NHS needs to be certain where its sensitive patient data is, so connecting HSCN to our fully owned, UK-based data centres makes perfect sense.

We’re meeting people from NHS Trusts who want to unlock new technologies like AI, big data and machine learning. We’re enabling them to do this by plugging in and accessing burstable cloud facilities at a moment’s notice, which is something they just can’t do on N3. HSCN is an incredibly exciting step for the UK healthcare community and we’re proud to support that development. It is innovations like this that will ultimately bring much-needed cuts to NHS wait times.
