All hands on deck to hit our deadline at UKFast!

With the first event in our new auditorium coming up on Thursday, and faced with a building site instead of an events space on Monday, it was all hands on deck.

The night before the event, there were still wires hanging out of the ceiling, wet paint on the walls and dust everywhere! Usually at this stage for any normal event, the room would be dressed ready for final rehearsals the next morning.

It’s safe to say that we were under the cosh! But, in true UKFast style, the team stepped in to help UKFast Space and Events. While our customer service and technical teams continued to deliver our service for clients; our marketing, communications, admin, facilities and front of house teams donned their gym kits and headed over to our new office building. Over the course of the week, more than 50 UKFast team mates took a couple of hours – and more – out to pitch in and help get the project over the line.

What was achieved in those few days was nothing short of remarkable. While some painted walls, others cleaned around them. While tables were dressed to perfection, an army of hoovers rid the space of the last remnants of dust. It was extraordinary!

On deadline

Knowing that there is an immovable deadline meant that we were all pushing in the same direction. The focus was very much on Thursday afternoon and being able to look around the space knowing what we’d collectively achieved. Without that short deadline there is no doubt that we would still be standing in a building site. All hands on deck to hit our deadline at UKFast!

I’ve always known the culture at UKFast is something unique but seeing it action time and again like this is really quite amazing. Not once did anyone complain that ‘this isn’t their role’. Not once did anyone say that we couldn’t transform the space in time. Everyone chipped in and got the job done. And considering the amount of physical effort needed to complete such a transformation, you would not believe the energy everyone showed. The buzz was electric. The challenge became team-building.

This is another reason why I believe that the UKFast team is the best in the world. Not only do they continue to deliver incredible results in their usual roles, when the time to comes to roll up their sleeves to help on something completely out of that remit, there’s no hesitation.

I absolutely have to send a huge thank you to everyone who joined in the mammoth effort and help to create our astonishing new auditorium space. And thank you to the rest of the UKFast team for keeping the ship steady while we cleaned windows, mopped floors and set up our new space.

The UKFast team on a deadline really is force to be reckoned with.
