Today may well be the start of a new month, Yorkshire Day and World Wide Web day, but it also marks half a century for our very own Lawrence Jones. So, seeing as it is Lawrence’s birthday, I have taken over his blog for the day!
Anyone who knows Lawrence, reads these posts or listens to Lawrence’s podcast will know just what an inspirational character he is, smashing limiting beliefs and breaking the mould at every turn. But what about the things that he doesn’t blog about? From supporting teammates who need an extra helping hand behind the scenes, to a pep talk here and there, Lawrence is always on hand should anyone need a boost.
So I asked some of the UKFast team to share the lessons that they’ve learned from LJ himself…
Give it a go
“Be bold and make big bets, it’s always better to fail after having tried than be afraid to try in the first place.” Chris F
60% of the time!
“Life is what you make it, never waste a second of it and don’t be afraid to fail as long as you learn along the way: 60% of the time, it works every time! Thanks for being a boss, friend and role model. Happy 50th birthday!” Kris
Keep your eyes peeled
“Greatest lesson: While quad biking always look left and right and ensure you take in the surroundings!” Chris E
Whatever you put your mind to…
“You can achieve anything you put your mind to. Set a goal, write it down and work hard towards it. When you believe you can achieve it, there is literally nothing that can get in your way, other than yourself. Happy birthday! Thank you for the wealth of opportunities and memories over the past seven years, for being calm as a cucumber and always being that ‘supportive elephant’. Look before you jump!” Alice
“Throughout my UKFast journey Lawrence has always taught me that you can do anything you want to if you set your mind to it, and that anything is possible with a bit of grit and determination. Most recently, Lawrence’s support and encouragement, both before and after I completed my first marathon, was second to none. Simply, Lawrence has taught me the power of mind over matter, and the power of self-belief. He really instilled it in me, which in turn, has led to me to practice this in both my personal and professional life. Thank you, Loz. Happy birthday.” Lowri
“Happy 50th Birthday, Loz. Thank you for your continued commitment to my sales success, for teaching me everything I know about selling servers and the rest, but most importantly, thank you for your unwavering support over the last 15 years. I really couldn’t have done any of this without your lessons and leadership. All the best on your 50th year – here’s to the next!” Gary M
Changing the landscape
“Happy birthday Loz! Thank you for working with me to inspire and change the landscape of education over the last 11 years, and for the guidance and mentoring throughout our educational journey to inspire and change so many young people’s lives.” Sax
Find the opportunity
“Thanks for teaching me to always see the opportunity in every situation and to not be afraid to do things differently. With this outlook we have great fun and we get great results. Thanks for backing me all the way. Happy birthday.” Tim
Push the boundaries
“Happy Birthday LJ… thank you for teaching me how important it is to set goals, smash them and push the boundaries of what I believe I can achieve. Thank you for supporting me, for challenging my ideas to bring out the best in them and for the daily lessons in leadership – I wouldn’t be where I am today without you.” Izzy
Anything is possible
“Having worked with Lawrence for the best part of a decade, the thing about him that inspires me the most is the way he looks at the world. Some (most) people look at the world and see barriers and obstacles in their way. Lawrence has taught me to not focus on those but to instead see ways of moving obstacles and breaking down barriers. He truly believes anything is possible and, thanks to him, so do I.” Lou
Thanks Lawrence for always striving to make UKFast and the wider world a better place, for solving any problem you come across and for always inspiring the team and beyond.
