Compromise: You can do anything you set your mind to, but you can't do everything! (1)How many times have you tried to do it all? To be all things to all people, to ensure that you don’t miss out?

And how many times have you put all of that aside to focus on achieving a single goal?

Whilst we all strive to ‘have everything’ and do everything, ultimately that’s unachievable, and unsustainable at best.

When you look at the people who are the most successful in their field, it’s easy to see how many compromises they have made in their lives. Take athletes for example, you can’t be at the top of your game if you’re out partying with your friends every weekend. You train every day, sometimes twice a day. You eat healthily and live a healthy life. Inevitably that means missing out on certain things along the way to ensure that you hit that ultimate goal.

Compromise is incredibly important in every area of life. You have to focus on what’s most important for you and if you focus and work towards that you inevitably miss some of the fun things so that you can put in the time to achieve your goal.

Compromise v Balance

Ultimately, life is all about balance. Instead of trying to be all things to all people, pause. Take a moment and think about what is truly important to you. Once you know this and set your goals, put your energy into achieving this.

As put incredibly eloquently by David Allen – one of the world’s leading personal productivity motivators – you can do anything, but you can’t do everything.
