In a world where we’re talking increasingly openly about mental health, I think it’s important that we are all honest.
The story I share in this week’s Mind Your Own Business podcast is undeniably difficult to talk about, and even embarrassing at times.
There are things that have happened in my life, particularly around the event that I speak of and the months that followed, that I found challenging and consequently, almost broke me.
Even 18 years on, I struggle to speak about the events that happened that day; that changed the course of my life forever.
But that’s exactly what that event did – it changed the course of my life forever. I had the devastating realisation that I had achieved nothing of note in my life and now it was over. I’d left my then girlfriend Gail, and our new recruit Neil with a fragile, fledgling business. I hadn’t achieved my goals.
They do say that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and I have to agree. Whilst it was a traumatic event, I got through it and it changed me hugely. My priorities shifted forever.
I took control of my own destiny.
If that accident hadn’t happened I wouldn’t be who I am, or where I am today. It’s that simple.
However, you don’t need to have a life-changing accident to really change your life and take control of your own destiny. You have the power to do that at anytime, anywhere.
Listen to my story and the lessons that I learned at that time in this week’s podcast. Let me know your thoughts and share your experiences in the comments below.
